I created this site to help centralize information in english about building traditional Japanese watercraft.
Wasen is the Japanese word meaning traditional Japanese boat. In Japanese, this is written as: 和船 The first character, or kanji, is read as “wa”, which refers to something that is traditionally Japanese. The second character is read as “sen”, though sometimes, depending on the word, it is read as “fune” or “bune”, all of which mean “boat or ship”.
Because of my study and modeling of this unique subject, I decided that I need to make a place to keep it organized and to share information with others. But, I realized also that with all the work I’ve been doing on this subject matter, the ship modeling subjects like European ships of the line, Spanish Galleons, American Privateers, Clipper Ships and all, were getting buried a little on my ship modeling blog site. So, I launched Wasen Modeler as a separate blog site.
To reach my blog posts, just click on the Wasen Model Blogs menu. If you hover over the menu, you will also find a subset of blogs based on categories to help make following certain topics a little easier.
To look at all blog posts, simply click on Wasen Modeler News without selecting any subcategories.
